Dear Host Family,
My name is Aleyna. I am 26 years old. I was born in Istanbul. I currently live within the institution where I work in Istanbul. In 2023, I graduated from the Sociology Department of Ege University. After graduation, I took part in a 52-day project in Romania where I worked with children, organizing activities and playing games with them. In this project, I worked with children from different age groups (6–18).
I have three siblings: one sister and two brothers. My mother is a housewife and my father works as a laborer. I lived with my grandmother for many years. I have a large family, and I learned respect and pure love from my grandmother. She also taught me how to cook. I come from a traditional Turkish family structure. Both my parents’ families are large, so during my childhood we visited many homes during holidays. We live in solidarity and support each other both financially and emotionally during difficult times.
My first and basic experience with children started by taking care of my siblings and my cousins’ children. I helped with laundry, cooking, and bathing. When my cousins were in crowded environments, they trusted me to take care of their children, and I entertained them for long periods. After university, I joined a European Union project in Romania, which was my first professional experience working with children. We played games and organized activities with children from different age groups.
Later, in June 2025, I started working with children in a foundation. I am responsible for 10 children aged 7–15 who are socially and economically disadvantaged. I am still working there. My responsibilities include bathing the children, preparing meals, taking them to the hospital, giving medication, and helping them follow their study schedules.
My reason for wanting to join the Au Pair program is to improve my experience with children in a different country while learning about different cultures. I want to learn a new language and further develop my childcare skills, which will help me specialize in working with children. Doing Au Pair in Germany will also allow me to learn German in addition to English. I am currently a master’s student and plan to become an academic, and I believe knowing German is an advantage in the field of social sciences.
My hobbies include cooking, tasting food from different cultures, dancing, and playing volleyball. While I was an undergraduate student, I volunteered at the Turkish Education Foundation, where I was also a scholarship holder. During busy periods, I support the office or motivate donors participating in marathons by cheering for them.
Safety is very important to me. In my workplace, child safety always comes first. I constantly warn children to prevent physical violence during play and remove sharp objects such as scissors from their environment. I try to eliminate situations that I think could be dangerous for children. Children often climb trees, so I always stay close to them. I do not smoke.
Personally, I am responsible, patient, and hardworking. I love animals, especially cats. I enjoy drinking coffee and watching the scenery. I am generally a calm person.
Families should choose me because I am patient, honest, and sensitive toward children. If a child is sick, I take care of them regardless of the time of night and do everything I can to help them recover. I am disciplined and remind children to do their homework and make sure they eat properly. I observe how they behave toward friends and family members and talk with them if I notice inappropriate behavior. When a child has a problem, I try to understand the reason behind their behavior and help solve it.
I take children to the park, organize picnics, and prepare meals and snacks together with them. I enjoy singing, dancing, drawing, playing games, cooking, playing volleyball, and playing basketball with children.
